New Zealand Special Service Medal (Erebus)

  • In a letter to Doug Swanson, Hon Phil Goff, Minister Of Defence writes that these members are eligible for the Medal:

Quote

Those personnel of 1 Transport Squadron, 1 Transport Regiment, Royal New Zealand Corps of Transport,

who transported the remains of victims of the Erebus disaster from RNZAF Base Auckland (Whenuipai)

to the Auckland mortuary, are eligible for the award of the medal, by reason of their work in support of the victim

identification team either with, or in close proximity to, the crash victims remains.

Antarctic Service Medal

MEDALS OF AMERICA

The United States Navy Antarctic Service Medal was presented to New Zealand service personnel (the majority of who were RNZASC or RNZCT) who served in the Antarctica from 1972 onwards whilst attached to Operation Deep Freeze with the then US Navy Squadron VXE-6, and met the Antarctica Service Medal eligibility period of 30 calendar days of service on the Antarctic Continent. However, the medal may not be worn by serving New Zealand service personnel.
